POST MATCH INTERVIEW
Juan Carlos Ferrero - July 26
(partial transcript)
Q. Juan Carlos, when did the pain start to affect you and can you describe it?
A. I hit a return, you know, and I start to feel it, not a lot of pain but in the same game start to feel more and more pain until finally after it take off that try [inaudible] me, you know, when I was serving I feel I couldn't still play.
Q. What is the injury exactly?
A. Spasms.
Q. It's the what?
A. Spasms.
Q. Spasms.
A. In the muscle.
Q. Have you had treatment already for it?
A. Not yet.
Q. Can you tell us is it going to be okay or is it too soon to tell?
A. I don't know how it's going to be. I hope that it's going to be like three or four days after doing treadmill all days and I hope to be ready for Cincinnati but I don't know.
Q. Have you ever had back trouble before?
A. Yeah. In Australian Open this year but I had it in less level, you know. I feel it in first round against Volandri in Australian Open but I could finish my match, you know, and the next day I could play good tennis and still win matches. So, this time it's more painful.
Q. Have you had any idea what causes it, what starts it?
A. What started?
Q. Yeah. Do you know what makes it happen the back trouble?
A. I don't know. I don't know. Sometimes, you know, start maybe because nerves or because tension after long time that I'm in a competition, you know, maybe, I don't know.
Q. Did you have any trouble with it in the days preceding the match? Did you feel any pain or any problems before today's match?
A. No. No. I was perfect.
Q. You've had a bad year in terms of fitness, haven't you? Would you mind just very briefly going over again all the things that have happened to you this year?
A. What happened to me, I don't know. Of course it's a bad year for me but, you know, I expect I will come play some good tournaments until the end of the year, you know, and try to get confidence again, you know, and try to play good tennis that I was doing at the start of the year.
Q. Did you feel that at Wimbledon you were starting to create more fitness at that time? You played three matches I think there.
A. I was starting to feel good there physically and after there, you know, after I start, I work a lot, you know, during two weeks very hard, you know, physically and also tennis and, you know, I came here and I couldn't play more than four games. It's not too good.
Q. What do you plan to do in the next few days before Cincinnati to see if you're able to play there or to treat the back?
A. I suppose that I will be here for two or three days or four, you know, doing some treadmill with my physio and then I will go there depending what I'm feeling. If I don't feel good Saturday or Sunday, I supposed to go to Spain, you know, to try to prepare tennis. I don't know. I expect to be very good in the next two or three days.
No news yet if JC is going to be well enough to play doubles with Robredo this week. Will keep you updated though ^^
