ARTICLE Back ailment stops Ferrero at Tennis Masters
CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero became the first seeded player to tumble out of the Tennis Masters Canada tournament on Monday.
A back injury forced the seventh-seeded Ferrero to retire just 36 minutes into his match with France's Frabrice Santoro, as first-round action began at Toronto's new Rexall Centre.
Ferrero left for a back massage during the fourth game of the opening set. He returned to the court but noticeably struggled while serving during a 3-3 deadlock in the first set.
He then decided to quit the match, giving Santoro the victory.
