RESULTS Ferrero safely through to Australia Open 2nd round
Juan Carlos Ferrero joins Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer, Guillermo García López, Feliciano López and Tommy Robredo in the 2nd round of the Australia Open after a straight sets 7-5, 6-0, 6-2 victory over the Czech Republic's Tomas Zib in a match lasting one hour, 37 minutes earlier today.
The Valencian, who reached the semi finals in 2004 having reached the quarters the previous year, has always believed that he is capable of winning this competition, and was desperately disappointed when he got knocked out in the third round last season by an in-form Guillermo Coria.
This is the first victory of the year for Ferrero, who has been struggling with a pulled stomach muscle which hampered him in Sydney, where he fell to Chris Guccione.
He now faces Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic, who won the Junior Australian Open last year.
