ARTICLE Ferrero, en el Vitenza Tennis Challenge

El español, junto a otros importantes jugadores de la ATP, formará parte de la primera edición del certamen de exhibición, que se disputará a cabo en Marche-en-Famenne.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, ganador de Roland Garros en 2003, estará presente en el prestigioso torneo belga, donde se llevarán a cabo cuatro encuentros durante el 10 y el 11 de diciembre.

Además del español, 18º en el Sistema de Entradas de la ATP, también confirmaron su participación en la competencia el francés Michael Llodra, y los locales Olivier Rochus y Xavier Mallisse.

Este disputará el primer partido con el galo, mientras que Rochus hará lo propio con Ferrero. Los ganadores se medirán para dirimir el título, en tanto que los perdedores batallarán por el tercer puesto.

Además de los encuentros de tenis se organizarán varios eventos alrededor del torneo, como una reunión con los alumnos de colegios y un concierto la noche del primer día.

ARTICLE Ferrero and Scud confirm Auckland date

Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero and Mark Philippoussis, the Australian who reached the 1998 U.S. Open and 2003 Wimbledon finals, have confirmed they will play at the Auckland Open starting on 9 January 2006.

Spaniard Ferrero, the 2003 French Open champion, had an injury- and illness-ravaged 2004 but has spent 2005 rebuilding his career and is currently ranked 19th in the world.

The 25-year-old lost to Czech Republic's Jan Hernych in the first round in Auckland this year.

"It is always a special treat for ... spectators to be able to see a player who has been a world number one," tournament director Graham Pearce said on Wednesday.

"Juan Carlos is a class player getting back to his threatening best."
