ARTICLE FORMER FINALIST BOWS OUT
Juan Carlos Ferrero reached the US Open final in 2003, but two years on and the Spaniard won't be playing in the latter stages.
Ferrero, who lost that final to Andy Roddick, was beaten 7-5 7-5 6-1 in the first round of this year's event by Arnaud Clement.
Seeded 20, Ferrero had no answers to Clement's more consistent game and went down in straight sets out on Court Four at Flushing Meadows.
Ferrero, who also won the French Open in 2003, has failed to return to his best after being hit by numerous injury problems last season.
