ARTICLE Nadal downs Ferrero to win Open Seat Godo
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Rafael Nadal beat Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the all-Spanish Open Seat Godo final on Sunday for his second claycourt title in two weeks.
Without losing a set, 18-year-old Nadal won his fifth career title, a week after winning the Monte Carlo Masters.
"I was a bit tired, I have to recognize it, but I'm delighted," said Nadal.
"You want to know my secret? Work with humility and never make do with what you've got, always want more."
After losing the first set, 2001 Barcelona champion Ferrero led 3-1 in the second-set tiebreaker but Nadal set to work firing shots out of Ferrero's reach to win it 7-4.
Nadal raced to 3-0 in the third, and cruised to his fourth championship this season in just under three hours.
"This guy is tough," Ferrero said of Nadal. "He doesn't fail a single ball."
The final began 15 minutes late because everyone wanted to watch the finish of the Formula One race at Imola in Italy, where Spaniard Fernando Alonso won the San Marino Grand Prix.
