COMMENTARY Another mention of JC in Jon Wertheim's Tennis Mailbag. Would be wonderful if one of JC's Chinese fans could send in a scan of this ad. Much thanks to Maly for sending in this bit of news ^^
"Last week the Washington Post ran a column declaring tennis "deader than dead." Before administering last rites, we might do well to consider the fate of tennis in the country with the world's largest population and fastest-growing economy. I had the good fortune of spending a few days in Beijing last week. I was walking past a store on one of the main drags when I saw a poster of a handsome, faintly familiar-looking guy in a blue crew-neck sweater. I looked closely and realized it was Juan Carlos Ferrero. Just last week we discussed JCF's lack of profile in the U.S., a guy who could walk down Broadway in tennis whites and go largely unaccosted. But in China they sell posters of him posing in J. Crewesque street clothes, no racket in sight."
ARTICLE Incase you missed it, here's a really nice article outlining JC's 2003 glory in Roland Garros and his struggles on clay this year. It ends on an uplifting note:
"Today, a few weeks away from his return to Roland Garros, Juan Carlos' grip on the Musketeer's Cup seems less than tight. Nevertheless, he still has time to recover his self-confidence and get himself in shape before be begins his bid to recapture last year's glory. Based on last year's performances, he will be one of the favourites whatever happens between now and then."
